What is Lamisil (terbinafine)
Lamisil (Terbinafine) is an antifungal antibiotic.
Lamisil (Terbinafine) is used to treat infections caused by fungus that affect the fingernails or toenails. Terbinafine oral granules are used to treat a fungal infection of scalp hair follicles in children who are at least 4 years old.

If treating fingernail fungus in adults, the dose of Lamisil should be 250 mg, taken by mouth daily for six weeks.
Lamisil Dosage for Toenail Fungus Infection
For toenail fungus in adults, the dose of Lamisil is 250 mg, taken by mouth once a day for 12 weeks.
Regardless of the type of infection that you treat, do not adjust your Lamisil dosage unless your doctor specifically instructs you to do so.
Lamisil Dosage for Ringworm of the Scalp
For treating ringworm of the scalp (tinea capitis), your child’s healthcare provider will calculate the appropriate Lamisil dose based on your child’s weight. For this type of infection, Lamisil is usually taken for six weeks. Only Lamisil oral granules (not tablets) are approved for this use.
Lamisil Dosage Information
Considerations for people who take Lamisil include the following:
* Lamisil comes in tablet form. It should be taken by mouth once a day. For treating ringworm of the scalp, Lamisil comes in oral granule form (which is also taken by mouth once a day).
* For fingernail fungus or for ringworm of the scalp, Lamisil should be taken for six weeks. For toenail fungus, Lamisil should be taken for 12 weeks.
* Lamisil can be taken with or without food.
* Lamisil oral granules should be sprinkled on a spoonful of non-acidic food, such as pudding or mashed potatoes (but not on applesauce or any fruit-based foods).
* Lamisil should be taken at the same time each day to maintain an even level of the drug in your blood.
* For Lamisil to work properly, it must be taken as prescribed. Lamisil will not work if you stop taking it.
* If you are unsure about anything related to Lamisil or your Lamisil dosage, talk to your doctor, nurse, or pharmacist. Do not stop taking Lamisil without discussing it first with your healthcare provider.
Lamisil (terbinafine hydrochloride) Tablets are indicated for the treatment of onychomycosis of the toenail or fingernail due to dermatophytes (tinea unguium).
Prior to initiating treatment, appropriate nail specimens for laboratory testing (KOH preparation, fungal culture, or nail biopsy) should be obtained to confirm the diagnosis of onychomycosis.

Lamisil Overdose
Clinical experience regarding overdose with oral terbinafine is limited. Doses up to 5 grams (20 times the therapeutic daily dose) have been taken without inducing serious adverse reactions. The symptoms of overdose included nausea, vomiting, abdominal pain, dizziness, rash, frequent urination, and headache.
